I believe being healthy doesn’t mean what size you are, the way you look or even something you do for others. I believe its how we feel about ourselves a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being. When you feel good about yourself and who you are, you carry yourself with a sense of confidence, self-acceptance, and openness that makes you beautiful. Recently I had a client share with me here ecstatic results from her annual physical. This lady has been working hard at changing something about herself that made her unhappy…. here is her story.
At 48 years old and recently retired Ramona was still trying to lose the weight gained from a pregnancy 12 years earlier. She believed this weight would “magically fall off” in time because as a younger person she was always active. She worked for LAPD and taught aerobic classes that should be enough right? But, at some point life got in the way of her exercise routine. Family life and work took precedence over taking care of self.
Three years ago Ramona and two friends decided it was time to make some changes. Together they decided to join Fitness for Life Studio committing to regular workout sessions. Initially measurements were taken but… the bottom line was she was bigger and heavier than she had ever been and wasn’t always feeling her best. She realized she couldn’t break the cycle alone. Determined to make some changes and with friends by her side she worked hard. With the help of a personal trainer who designed individual routines for them all they were motivated and challenged. Helping them make their process successful they incorporated what was maintainable and sustainable.
With some diet modifications, regular walks and weight training Ramona was on her way. Last year Ramona had her annual physical. It revealed her hard work had paid off. Thirty six pounds lighter, a bounce in her step and a healthy addiction for her daily walks Ramona was on a path many of us are afraid to take. Her commitment to a healthier self motivated her to keep up her winning streak.
Walking different trails in Cambria everyday gives her the variety she needs to keep walks interesting. At 67 she is now six sizes smaller, her recent blood work revealed lower cholesterol, lower sodium intake, normal EKG and lower blood pressure. Her doctor was impressed with her commitment to a healthier lifestyle. With support, motivation and plenty of challenging sessions Ramona and her group plan to reap these benefits for many years to come!
It doesn’t take hours at the gym… with an hour a day anyone can make a difference.
